Text: Dashur, una necrópolis real a 40 kms de El Cairo, fue zona militarizada hasta 1996, que sólo se ha abierto al público recientemente.La Pirámide Negra de Amenemhet III, en su mayoría en ruinas, está fuera de la zona accesible a visitantes. Su pyramidion de granito negro (piedra de la parte superior) puede contemplarse en el Museo de El Cairo.
Dahshur, a royal necropolis 40 kilometres south of Cairo, has only recently been opened to the public, having been a military zone until 1996. The mostly ruined Black Pyramid of Amenemhet III is off limits to visitors. Its black granite pyramidion (top-most stone) can be seen in the Cairo Museum.

This monumental statue with the head of a human (perhaps of the King Khafre or Khufu) and a lion's body is a national symbol of Egypt, crumbling today because of the erosion of the wind, subterranean humidity and the smog from Cairo.
