 Be it open-air or indoor, spring in the Rhine metropolis promises top-class entertainment and exciting encounters. We are particularly looking forward to the arrival of around 4,800 athletes who will be bringing emotion, thrills and diversity to the sport city of Düsseldorf from 19 to 23 May 2014, when they engage in good, clean competition at the Special Olympics Düsseldorf. For one week, the sport venues of the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital will be the scene of gripping competitions and high emotion. Competitions will take place in 18 disciplines and there will be non-competitive sports too.

 For four long years Flanders Fields was the scene of the First World War. Homes and fields were turned into a battlefield in 1914. European and wider international interests were fought over here. A million soldiers were wounded, missing or killed in action. Some tens of thousands of citizens became refugees. Entire cities and villages were destroyed. The landscape of the region still tells the story of the war. It contains hundreds of monuments and cemeteries which have great historical significance for the people of many nations. There are a lot of museums which explain in an interactive way all the aspects of the conflict: the battles, daily life, etc.

 Avignon, for some time capital of Christendom in the Middle Ages, retains the indelible mark of its grandiose destiny : the palais des papes (palace of the popes), the Saint-Benezet brigde, called the « pont d’Avignon » of worldwide fame through its commemoration by the song, and the ramparts constitute an exceptional complex of monuments listed by UNESCO as World Heritage sites. In addition dozens of churches and chapels, all remains of a past rich in history give the city its unique atmosphere.

 Feel spring in green Slovenia! Not far from Ljubljana, Volčji Potok Arboretum will host an exhibition of over two million tulips between 26 April and 4 May. Moving among the tulips there will be full-size dinosaurs, which have been resurrected here in Slovenia in order for them to soften up among the flowers. This is no April fool hoax, but a colourful, all-Slovenian greeting to spring at the foot of the two-thousanders of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps where a tulip will blossom for every one of the two million Slovenians.

 The largest sports event in the history of independent Slovenia, the European Basketball Championship, has begun, just today! Slovenia and, especially, its host towns - Ljubljana, Koper, Jesenice and Celje, with EuroBasket 2013, will step into the light of the entire European and wider basketball public from 4 to 22 September 2013.

 The new museum is housed in the historical warehouses of the legendary shipping company Red Star Line. The Red Star Line Museum tells the story of the company and highlights on the tales of more than two millions Europeans who had the courage to leave the old world in search of better life in the Promised Land.
